Corn Codex
Corn Codex explores the abstraction and commodification of corn—a sacred crop turned global commodity—through the lens of digital distortion and material transformation. An animated pixel art GIF traces corn’s journey from its natural form to an industrialized product. Jagged glitches and pixelated distortions reflect the interventions of technology, capitalism, and genetic manipulation. Stills printed on handmade corn paper ground the digital in the organic. The final frame, a QR code infused with traces of corn, merges the organic and digital, prompting viewers to scan and re-engage with the animated cycle. This work probes the cultural and ecological cost of abstraction, where life becomes code, inviting reflection on nature’s place in a digital age.
